Birth and death are the borders of life. Through one, you enter it and through the other, you exit. In birth, the boundary is the mother’s womb and when it no longer holds, her body opens and the new life is exposed to the bare world. However, their bond remains unbreakable. 

My name is Gudrun Tomasdottir and I am a birth photographer from Iceland. My pictures portray women in birth, in the transition of becoming mothers and bringing the life they created, earthside. It´s a privilege to be around women in that stage of life and to photograph their journey.
